Laws have been made since the times immemorial to develop discipline in society so that every individual can live in peace and harmony without insecurities and fear. But do laws transform the human mind set, is a debatable issue. There are the contradictory opinions expressed by the people that whether the laws affect the behaviour and perception of the common messes or not. In my opinion, legal system is cannot entirely modify the criminal mind.
To commence with, laws are formulated to prevent crime, it places limits on people’s behaviour. When people are governed with laws, they are scared to commit crime. For example, In Arab countries like Dubai, laws are very strict; therefore, crime rate is also less. People are aware about the hard and stern punishments. Moreover, it plays an essential role in maintaining stableness and development of the society. In addition, laws help to give peaceful and comfortable life to people.
In contrast, laws also have negative influence on the society. It restricts but do not reform because the desire and ability of misdemeanour is imbedded in human nature which cannot be altered. For instance, doing riots, some respectable people of the society are indulged in criminal activities as they have no fear of laws. Despite of many laws to govern our behaviour, crime rates are still increasing day by day. This shows that the human basic extinct never changes. However, laws are used to make comfortable, but it cannot change what is in people’s heart.
In recapitulation, though laws may not bring the complete change, but we cannot think of world without laws and order. Therefore, laws are requisite for our civilization.
