Learning is a life-long process that goes from cradle to grave. It is a two step forward one step backward process. In this era of globalisation, it has become essential to learn more than one language. Some people think that the contrary. To me earlier notion seems to be feasible which I will explain in the following paragraphs.
At the outset, learning a new language has myriad benefits. Firstly, it promotes understanding of psychology and diversity. Secondly, bilingualism leads to improve listening skills, sharpness of the mind, promotes multitasking and increase flexibility. Moreover, learning a new language helps in switching from one topic to another. Also, it becomes easy to cope up with unexpected circumstances when one has control over two languages. How as it possible for a student to talk and match himself with the children of other countries if he does not understand the language being spoken by other students? Last but not least; it does not cause confusion of thoughts by learning more languages.
On the flip side, being a bilingual one has to compromise with reading as bilingualism slows down the reading and learning process as sometimes brain cannot weigh the load of learning two languages. Probing further, learning more languages makes decrease in one’s vocabulary. Adding, a layman may be under stressful situation by having control over two languages.
In conclusion, it can be started that learning is an endless journey and should not be hampered as it leads to the development of new skills.
