Is tourism in less developed countries advantage or disadvantage?

Tourism plays a vital role in everyone’s life. Today the world has become a global village and it has become very handy to watch different locations, lands and countries while sitting at home through mass media. This urgues a desire to see and experience those places. Tourism has many pros but it is accompanied by certain cons too. I will explore my viewpoints in the following paragraphs.

At the outset, tourism has boosted the economy of various countries as well as of different states due to foreign exchange earnings. Moreover, tourism also helps to increase the growth of service sector such as the increase of hotels ,restaurants transport system which leads to the increment in the employment rate. Therefore, the great amount of revenue is being generated. The government can use this revenue for the development of infrastructure of that state. Probing further, many people visit different places for the purpose of getting treatment for diseases, improving health and prevent diseases. There are many tourism destinations offering yoga, aerobics and other therapies for improving health and wellness. Furthermore, the culture, traditions and the cuisine of the host country is promoted at the high end. For example, in Himachal Pradesh in India, as there is no industry, therefore tourism is the only source of income over there.

On the flip side, tourism has some adverse effects on the host countries. The flora and fauna is degraded due to deforestation which results in destruction of scenic beauty of the country. Adding, it also increases pollution as many tourist’s uses cigars and plastic bags. Moving further, socio culture effect like deterioration of language and culture takes place because of host nation try to emulate foreigners.

To conclude, tourism has many merits but its demerits cannot be marginalised. Therefore government should be meticulous while promoting tourism so that the ecosystem of the nation should be maintained.
